Our roots met in different ways, in different spaces, in different parallel times and from that moment we became leaves. These leaves were brought together in this exhibition by Eszter, who still remained alive in the art scene and in our existence even after she passed away.

Eszter used to come the last three years of her life to Rotterdam, during the summer or during Art Rotterdam. As artist in residence at Niffo Galerie/ Recycle, but also as friend of artist at the Poortgebouw. Further she collaborated with Kristina Vígh, a Hungarian artist living in Amsterdam, working on a project in parallel worlds„Embroidery for peace”. Kristina and Ellis Schoonhoven in the Netherlands, and Eszter in Hungary.After Eszter ’s death, I felt a void, she became my friend, as well a part of us, identifying with our way of approaching art and life on all levels. This void was soon replaced by a miracle. On our way came Zoé Kovács, a young Hungarian student at WdKA, fascinated by folklore, often found herself in our gallery. The circle was round.

At Niffo, Zoe Cochia collaborated with Eszter, co-creating recycled t-shirts using old works and materials from people which were active in the gallery. During that time, she met neighbors like Ilknur, old and new interns with whom she interacted and worked together. The result of this co-production was an exhibition called "Potatophony as cacophony of the world". Some of these works will also part of the new exhibition dedicated to Eszter.

Károly Tóth will present his own works that are based on the memories he and Eszter built together. A contemporary view vision of their everyday, spontaneous moments, buying vegetables on Saturday at the Afrikaandermarkt, cooking together or making sounds together. Through time, music and colors they created art together, a language always alive.

In the project „Embroidery for peace” people came together to create for the world, the troubled world of today. Embroidery is the means to create peace for us. It is the opposite of a society in which agreements, results and time are central. The slow rhythm of embroidery creates a connection: people from different backgrounds each embroider a piece on/on the sheet and together these pieces form one whole. This project symbolized also the power of women. We will have the honor of presenting some of these works as well.

All these stories brought together reflect how different worlds can meet each other in peace and understanding. We are grateful to Eszter and ourselves for being able able to create a universal positive vibe of life.
